So, I'm back from Japan, and it was truly an awesome trip! Aside from two "speedbumps" of sorts (that didn't stop me from enjoying the trip), everything went incredibly smoothly and was tons of fun! pheonixxfoxx and I were constantly laughing and having a grand time. We made a good traveling combination, if I do say so myself!

Summary of the trip. Quite long, despite being a summary!Collapse )

That summary leaves out a lot of our fun things, like in-jokes and conversations a little experiences we had along the way, but hopefully it'll help me remember what we did overall.

Overall, it was a wonderful trip and I'm truly happy I got to experience it! Ankle and flight delay (which ended up not being a big deal) aside, everything went so smoothly and we got to do and see so much! I'm thinking of going back to Japan again in Spring 2016 for the 20th anniversary of Pokémon, but we'll see what happens. :D I really feel we made the most out of our trip, and I'm never going to forget it!

I'm trying to figure out what to do with my pictures, as I want to share them but I have over 2000 photos... So I'll see what I can do about that.

Japan in less than a week now! I've fallen into denial land, which always seems to happen in the week or two before I go do something super exciting. My savings are A+! As soon as I get this next paycheck (on Wednesday) I'm totally set, with a great amount of spending money. I'll even be getting a few hundred extra, thanks to the great exchange rate right now! I'm looking forward to everything except maybe the long flight. Even then, the airline we're taking has excellent reviews, so it should be about as nice as a 10+ hour economy flight can be! Also, I'll have Super Smash Bros to play, so that'll help the time go quickly. I'm going to make the most of this trip and do my best to enjoy every minute of it. I hope that pheonixxfoxx and I will have a smooth, fun, happy journey, and I think we will!

I'm going to be very careful about what I offer to pick up for people, as I'll be picking up a lot of very large items for myself and I'm worried about space (going to EMS ship things back, but even then), but is there anything elusive and reasonably small that anyone is after? I'd rather not pick up stuff that's readily available in online shops, but if there's something that's difficult to find that you want me to hunt for, I'd be happy to! I'll be doing a lot of shopping, and it's fun to "treasure hunt"!

Tosca is still not home, but the possible sightings continue at random intervals. I had a game cam up for a few weeks, and a cat that looks a good amount like her showed up many times on the camera. It was always far enough away that I couldn't say for certain, though--spots weren't visible. Unfortunately, I caught some guys in the act of trying to steal the camera, so I had to take it down. The other day, a man who lives right in the area where many of the sightings have been saw a bengal cat playing with another cat across the street. I rushed there, but seemed to just barely missed the cat (and I had to go to work so I couldn't hunt around). This man's grown son has a bengal, so I do trust him to know what one looks like. It may sound unrealistic, but even though it's been so long, something in my intuition tells me I'll get her back... Maybe it's just that I can't handle the alternative, but...it's just this feeling that's stuck with me and I really want to trust it. If nothing else, at least it stops me from falling into total despair.

Otherwise, life is pretty good for the most part.

Sad animal ramblings... Basically, what I always post about here, haaa...Collapse )

ANYWAY. On a much more positive note, Japan is coming up pretty fast! 45 days now! Every time I see a picture of a Pokémon Center, I get super excited! My savings are going great. If I include the money I'll be putting away from my next two paychecks and the money I just earned petsitting, I'm only $100 away from my goal, and I'm selling at a convention Swap Meet next weekend so I should be able to make that and beyond! Of course, I'll save up more than my goal if I can, and I think that should be easy to do. I'm also planning on doing some Ebay sales next month, once I see what I have left after the convention. There are so many things I'm looking forward to doing and seeing in Japan with pheonixxfoxx! I think we're going to have an incredible time together!

I'm also happy that Pokéscans, my side Tumblr blog, reached 10,000 followers! It's actually heading towards 11,000 now. I just put a tracking script on it the day before yesterday, and just from checking it occasionally, so far I've seen visitors from:

- US
- France
- Peru
- Canada
- Mexico
- Argentina
- Japan
- New Zealand
- Poland
- Guatamala
- Brunei Darussalam
- Austria
- Spain
- Brazil
- El Salvador
- United Kingdom
- Australia
- Puerto Rico
- Vietnam
- Russia
- Korea
- Sweden
- Hungary
- Switzerland
- Hong Kong

The script only tracks people that are online at any given moment and I just check it periodically, so it's incredible that the visitors are from just about everywhere! Pokémon really does unite people. I'm glad I started this project. Even if it is hard work and sometimes a pain, it's been so worth it to see the response and gratitude for what I'm doing. It's going to be fun to post pictures from Japan, and gather more material for the blog!

I guess that's all for now... My feelings are mixed for now, strong on both sides, but as I said before, I'm just trying to stay positive. It's hard sometimes, as I really, really miss Tosca and wonder where she is and what she's doing, but at least I have this amazing trip coming up soon to look forward to. <3

So, I guess I should give an update on Tosca, because there's good news!

I was starting to feel pretty down this weekend about the chances of seeing Tosca again... Especially because one of our neighbors (up the hill) said she's seen a mountain lion in the neighborhood 3-4 times recently. But, I didn't give up, and continued going around the neighborhood putting mini flyers in peoples' mailboxes, and putting up posters at businesses, etc.

On Monday, I suddenly got three calls from people who have seen a cat matching her description! In fact, they have seen this cat multiple times, as recently as the day before they got the flyers! And the three people are all right in the same area, around a mile away from my house (on the other end of my street, actually). After talking to two of the witnesses quite a bit and meeting with them and showing them pictures, they are basically positive it's her. She has been eating food some evenings at two of the ladies' homes, and both of them have a set-up where there's a chance we could catch her without using a humane trap. One of them feeds her cats in the garage and Tosca goes in there, and if she sees her, she can easily close the door behind her, and she sneaks into the other lady's house to eat food late at night.

With the second lady, I've gone over to her house twice and sat behind the door, waiting for the cat to come in. Last night, the cat in question did come in. Unfortunately, the interaction was incredibly brief (and it was dark) so I can't say for sure whether it was her or not, but I think it may have been! She came in the door towards the food, and I tried to shut the door behind her, but she slipped out too fast. I also stayed at the first lady's house last night for well over an hour, and it was reassuring because I got to see her set-up and how much she cares about helping to catch my kitty. Assuming she comes by again, there's a good chance she'll be able to catch her, but she hasn't gone by this particular house the last few days.

I feel pretty good about this cat being her because she's a unique-looking cat, so it's really just a matter of catching her now. I'm considering using a humane trap if we don't catch her soon, but that could end up being a disaster, as there are a ton of other cats in the area (literally dozens--one of the ladies who works at the local shelter lives right near by and has like 20 cats apparently...). I'm giving this current idea of the first lady shutting her in the garage, and me hanging out at the second lady's house late at night and trying to shut the door when she comes in, a bit of time to work first. She apparently looks healthy and has even been playing with some of the neighborhood cats.

Of course, I'm still somewhat on edge until I have her back home with me, and especially because I haven't gotten a good view of her so I can't 100% confirm it is her after all (even though I'm fairly sure it must be--both ladies who I've been working with are basically certain it's her), but it's much more encouraging searching for her and knowing she is around, and that I could be bringing her home any day now! Fingers crossed that she will be home soon so I can finally focus on other things in my life. Basically, since she disappeared June 11th, my life has more or less revolved around trying to find her, being incredibly upset, etc.

With 66 days remaining until I leave for Japan, it would be awesome to be able to focus on that excitement instead of constantly worrying and being upset! I've missed my kitty so much, and I just hope she'll be home soon so I can snuggle with her again. <3

There may be hope on the Tosca search front after all! I got another call today, this time a kid saying, "I have your cat! At the main entrance of the park." They said they'd hold onto her, and I rushed there, but there was no one there again. I was very frustrated, but this time there was a number on the caller ID, so I called back when I got home. The kid said he was sure it was her (and said yes when I asked about spots, her eyes, and her ear notch), and she got away because she scratched him. I asked if he was sure it was her, he said yes, and if it was a prank, he said it wasn't.

I called and called for her with food at the park, but nothing so far... But anyway, that's call number two about allegedly seeing her/petting her at the park, and the park is huge (and near my house), so there may just be hope after all! I'll search more tomorrow after work. I also talked to the women who work at the park. Fingers crossed... I really hope this it!

Tosca is still missing. It's been over 8 days now. I'm utterly heartbroken, but trying to hold out hope that she might still come back. People keep telling me about their cats coming home after 2, 3, 4 weeks and even beyond, but...it isn't like her to be away this long, so I'm scared. I'm constantly going back and forth between sadness (though I'm not allowing myself to really grieve, I'll fall apart if I do) and a little bit of hope. I just...I'm going to be in so much pain if she really is gone for good. I love her so much. :( Really hope she suddenly turns up, or someone calls to say they have her/saw her... I put some large, brightly-colored signs up in prominent parts of my area today, so I'm crossing my fingers that someone will know something.

Tosca's been missing since the morning of June 11th, and I'm not coping well. I'm terrified that she's gone for good. I put up posters in the neighborhood, shared all over Facebook, informed the local shelter, put a classified ad in our local newspaper, put her on our local radio station's "Pet Patrol," walked around the neighborhood, have been calling for her constantly, and so on.

If she is truly gone, I'm not going to cope well. I love that cat so much. I'm just hoping and hoping that a car or predator didn't kill her or or someone didn't take her. I'm really depressed and upset. All I want is for her to come home. I miss her so much. I can hardly handle the thought of never seeing her again.

Yay, someone BIN'd the Kyurem on Ebay! Which is basically all the money I wanted for my goals.

...And then they sent me three messages about whether I can send them two different invoices, and saying they'll pay for it in a week. (My sales terms say to pay for items within three days.)

I sent them a message saying I only allow three days for payment--I'm hoping they'll get it together and pay before then. If not, I'll have  a dilemma, though I guess I could wait a week for payment. It's rude, though...

EDIT: Ugh, they're gonna pay me Tuesday because they're transferring money to their credit card. At least it looks like I'll be getting the money, but I'm still rather annoyed...

07 March 2014 @ 11:03 am
It's been a weird start to March! I've been feeling pretty good mentally/emotionally so far this year (and I still do), but, man, these two incidents in one week.

So, first off, on Saturday evening a guy knocked on my door, asking if I had a yellow lab. I said I didn't, but then asked why he was asking. It turns out another guy hit a yellow lab across the street from our house. Being an animal person as I am, I decided to go check out the situation. I found the dog laying flat-out on the side of the road, with what appeared to be a broken leg. I covered her up with a towel to try and prevent shock, and rubbed her to keep circulation going and talked to her. A highway patrol officer showed up, followed by an animal control officer. The dog had a new-looking collar, but no tags, and the animal control officer said that he if he took her, she was going to be put down. My mom arrived on the scene after a little while, too. Instead of letting the officers take her, I decided to take her myself, because I had a feeling her family would be looking for her, and I didn't know the extent of her injuries. She weighed around 75 lbs so it wasn't easy to get her in my car, but we managed it.

Mom and I waffled back and forth on what to do. It was a Saturday night, so no vet offices were open except the emergency vets around an hour away, and they said they would charge us for the services. She didn't seem to be going into shock, just a lot of pain, and had no bleeding from the mouth or nose, so at least she appeared to be stable. We called a few different vets and talked to them, but decided to think about it for a little while. Meanwhile, we drove around the neighborhood to see if anyone seemed to be searching for a dog. We didn't find anyone, so we ended up bringing her in the house, though it wasn't easy.

I sent a Facebook message to my friend Katie, who is a veterinary assistant, and she sad she'd call her boss and, meanwhile, gave us doses of a pain medication we had on hand to get her through the night. The next day, Sunday, we took her in to see Katie's boss, who agreed to see her as a stray. The x-rays were not good--her femur was shattered into multiple pieces, her other back leg had something else wrong with it, and on top of that, her back wasn't in good shape from old age. Dr. Tim said surgery was an option, but it would be major and likely involve amputation of one of the legs. They gave us morphine to help get her through the next day, in hopes that we would find her family in that time. I went home and posted all over local Facebook pages, hoping and hoping someone would contact us. And within a few hours, her family called us, and came to get her. Unfortunately, we haven't heard back on what happened, but I suspect they put her down. That's what I would have done. Anyway, it was exhausting and sad, we had her for around 20 hours, and it took me a few days to recover.

And then yesterday, I was walking around and managed to roll my ankle badly/basically fall on it. It hurt so much I was yelling for quite a while, and almost passed out. So, that's what I'm dealing with now. I can put a little weight on the affected ankle, but not much, and if I don't take pain meds I feel sick from the pain if I get up and hobble around. With pain meds, I can at least manage to get up and get around on crutches, while keeping the foot up. Gonna go get it x-rayed soon. I hope it heals quickly--it sucks being stuck on the couch. :(

On the upside, pheonixxfoxx and I booked our Kyoto hotel and Shinkansen tickets together, which was a great deal! It's all paid for. Japan savings are going well, I still have tons of time to save, and my birthday is one week from today! I'm super excited for the trip--I keep having to remind myself that there's still seven months to go!

Aaand I lost two auctions I wanted to win last night. Oh well, they just went too high. I'm a little sad, especially about one of them (which had quite a few items I wanted), but, you win some and you lose some. I already have over 100 plush to have shipped here when I can afford it. XD I'll sell most, but keep a few.

I also won a lot of Pokémon genga/douga last night! The auction says Best Wishes, but then the auction picture has one drawing from X/Y as well! (Fletchling, yesss! ♥) There are only three images in the auction pictures, but eighteen drawings, so I'm excited to see what else is in the lot when it arrives. I love collecting production art!

Ooooh, I won a lot of 8 bell plush, with Vaporeon, Jolteon, Dragonair, Dragonite, Oddish, Bulbasaur, Pidgey, and Pikachu! They don't come with their boxes, but, I mean, you rarely see those 'Vees and I won the whole lot for (I think) quite a bit less than what they'd be auctioned off for on the community.

Now to begin the internal war over what to keep and what to sell. Very tempted to keep the first four because they're all ones I collect to some degree (I already have Pidgey and Pikachu), but on the other hand I could make a lot off of them... Maybe I'll wait until I have them in hand to decide. I have a feeling I'll be so charmed by them that I'll keep those four even though I could make money for Japan off of them. Bell plush are just too cute. ;___;

I'm really surprised I won them? I mean, they weren't cheap (although, actually with fees and stuff, they'll probably only average out to about $20 each), but certainly less than I would have expected to pay for them... I wonder if Noppin's holiday helped me out here.

Still a little sad about the Chikorita Plushplush, but this awesome win sure helps! (Just hope I find another Chiko Plushplush one of these days.)

Shaping up to be another boring New Year's Eve, haha. I'm trying to talk mom into going to dinner but she keeps saying "It's not very exciting!"

But mom, the alternative is sitting around at home? I think it's at least more exciting than that. @____@

Anyway, other than that and being a little tired, I'm doing pretty well. I'm very optimistic about 2014!
